The Beauty of Drone Photography

The Beauty of Drone Photography

Drone photography and videography for real estate is the latest trend to hit the market in recent years. Many builders are using drones to take a closer look at the areas in the buildings that are not reachable by the engineer’s naked eye during construction. It also shows how the building looks like from the aerial perspective.

Drone photographs and videos are extremely helpful in the marketing department of the real estate industry. It is most important in the high-end real estate markets, like napa real estate, as these estates tend to be located in large lots, and aerial photography is a must. It is the second most important invention in the real estate after the internet. If you will browse many properly listing websites, you will see that many properties on sale are accompanied by photos or videos taken by drones. And you will agree that those photos and videos are more interesting to look at than the shots taken at eye-level.

Real Estate & Drone Technology Unite

As a realtor, you might be thinking if using a drone to take pictures of the house that you are selling will all be worth it considering the time and the cost. How practical is it and is it worth your investment? The answer is yes. Using drone as a marketing tool is surprisingly affordable. Supposing you will hire an expert to do the shots and he is properly oriented with what kind of angles he need to capture, taking pictures will only last for a day or even shorter than that.

Marketing Luxury Estates

Luxurious properties with vast lands that are being listed will benefit more from aerial photography. The unmanned aircraft can take images of the house and the surroundings which are not just aesthetically inviting for prospective buyers but extremely helpful to them as well. They will be given an image of the house and its surroundings in an angle different from the regular eye-level views. Because of that, they will have the opportunity to inspect the house and the lot before they can decide. They will also be informed about the proximity of the house to other important establishments such as the hospital, school, market, shopping centers, churches, etc.

If the property is near beautiful natural surroundings, say a waterfall or a lake, the images from a drone can be a huge selling point to the prospective buyers.

Drones can produce high-quality photos and videos.  These images are great sources for marketing the property. If you can show the house in its entirety to an interested buyer, you don’t have to do a lot of convincing. Let the pictures and the videos do the talking!

Drone Mistakes That Are Easy to Avoid

Drone Mistakes That Are Easy to Avoid

When they say life is a learning process, it means that you will make mistakes in your entire lifetime.  It is by making mistakes that you will learn, sometimes with terrible consequences. This adage is true even in flying drones. You cannot really be good at it the first time. You need to practice how to control it. You will make a lot of mistakes flying it, even if you are already a trained drone pilot.

In piloting unmanned vehicle systems, it is always advisable to avoid making mistakes. True, you cannot really prevent bad things from happening 100% all the time. There will always be small chances of making mistakes. However, the mistakes can go bigger when you know how to avoid them but you got too complacent to act.  Here are some blunders you need to avoid when flying your copters.

Flying in restricted areas

Know where you can and you can’t fly your drone. Consult with your local authority if you don’t know where it is allowed to fly drones and where it is restricted. The Federal Aviation Authority has put several guidelines in place. The regulation makes it illegal for drones to fly within a 5-mile radius from the airport. It is also not allowed to pilot copters in busy, crowded areas. Don’t fly a drone near military bases. Do not use a drone to spy on anybody (like your neighbor). If you break these rules, you might get yourself into trouble.

Flying near obstruction

Don’t fly near buildings, trees, and posts. You need a big open space to practice your piloting skills. Your backyard won’t suffice unless you have a baseball court there. Your drone can crash into buildings, trees, or any high posts. Be kind to the birds as well. If you know the place is frequently visited by birds, find somewhere else.

Using an expensive drone during initial practice

You should start learning how to fly a drone using a cheaper model. At the beginning, there is a bigger chance that you’ll break a drone. Your drone can crash on buildings or get stuck on trees. When it falls badly, you might just collect its pieces on the ground which is terrible. Imagine if that drone costs $1,200 dollars and it got broken into pieces, you or your parents might be crying all day long. So better start with a cheap drone before you try piloting your new DJI Phantom 4.

 Drone 101: Understanding Your Drone

 Drone 101: Understanding Your Drone

Understanding how your drone works will make it last longer. Learn to make it fly and how to control it. Also, know the external factors that affect its flight.

There are so many things to consider before piloting a drone. First is how to maneuver it and what causes the changes in its speed and direction. In learning how to control your drone, you also have to understand how it stays airborne.

How it stays flying involves the same principle as that of an airplane and helicopter. The drone must have a lift- the force that pushes heavier-than-air air objects up. This is created by balancing the air pressure above and below an aircraft.

For airplanes, the lift is created by moving air above and below its wings. This happens as the planes pass the air in horizontal movement. The larger the aircraft gets, the longer the runway should be in order for it to gain the speed needed to create a lift that will push the aircraft into the air.

Once it’s in the air, it needs to maintain the right momentum in order to produce the right amount of air up and below its wings. The plane only moves in the directed pointed by its noise.

In helicopters, the direction can be changed by controlling the pitch of the blades. It is also known as changing the “attacks” of the propellers. Multi-rotor helicopters have more than one propeller but typically, a helicopter only has one propeller.

Today most drones have multi-rotors, three to eight main propellers. Drones stay airborne by varying the speeds of each propeller. To go to another direction, the “attack” of the propellers needs to be changed by the remote. The change in attack can be done by slowing some of the rotors. This will cause a change in the angle of the craft and will cause enough lift to make it move.

Now that you know about how drone flies, it’s time for you to learn how to actually make it fly. The manual that came with it should tell you exactly how to do it. If you need flying demo, you can find instructional videos on YouTube. Alternatively, you can go to the manufacturer’s website and check if they posted a video on how to control the drone.

Before you try to make it fly, check first if the camera is updated. Look into the message board on its website for updates. Make sure the updates are bug-free. Do not update the firmware if it looks like the link is a bug or unless the update is really needed to fly your drone. After the update, do a test flight to make sure it works.
